“I’m not one for “fate”, but I do believe that Victoria came to me at a time when I really needed her. I had looked at my family genetics and realized that it was impractical for me to stay skinny forever, even though I had been “successful” so far. I had to find some way to deal with gaining weight and be okay with it, which I felt was impossible for me. I had made excuses for other programs about why they wouldn’t work for me, but Victoria’s own life story matched mine so perfectly that none of my excuses would work.
During the program, I struggled to make my commitments. But Victoria didn’t ever make me feel like a failure or lose her patience with me. She also called me out (nicely) on my excuses or my sneaky tricks to make her think I was eating when I wasn’t. She knew. She’d been there. That alone was so helpful – that someone was paying attention closely enough to see that I was struggling. I really believe that in order to get through an eating disorder, you NEED someone that has been through an eating disorder.
Since having gone through the program, I don’t tie my self-worth to my body or my job. I get angry at diet ads because I recognize now how full of BS they are. I surround my Insta feed with people who love their bodies and people who love them, and that has been so healing. I don’t ration, I don’t substitute, and I don’t “make up for” what I eat. I still struggle sometimes – when something hard happens, I feel “fat”, but now I have the tools to recognize and work through what that really means to me.
I am really proud of myself for having gone through this program because it has really helped me grow as a person and I am so thankful to Victoria for being there for me.”
